New Year’s Eve in Sydney is really cool and different compared to all the others I had before. About 30 degrees celsius. All people start moving during the morning or early afternoon to all 28 vantage points of the Sydney Harbour Bridge where the fireworks are being lighted. Everybody brings food, beverages (mostly alcoholic with high percentages), suncream, towels and friends to one of these spots. I went with my Irish housemates and their friends to the Balmain East (Thornton Park) vantage point. We left home at about 3pm and after a stop in a pub and a couple of bottle shops we arrived at the selected spot, where an impressive amount of people had already settled down. After finding a place to be in the all crowd, time passed pretty fast and the “family” fireworks started at 9pm. The ones at midnight very absolutely amazing. The best ones I have ever seen in my life. On the bridge, peninsulas, Sydney CBD… everywhere and very long. Afterward, because of the crowd and the traffic, we decided to walk our way back to the city.
